Exclusive first look at new PT uniform

It’s blue and gold for the Navy’s proposed new PT uniform.

Navy Times got a first glimpse at the new fitness duds during a presentation at the Navy Counselor’s Annual Symposium in Dallas on Thursday morning.

The prototype includes a gold T-shirt and blue shorts combination. The shirt is emblazoned with the word “NAVY” on the back in safety reflective letters and the official Navy seal on the front left breast. The blue shorts also have gray reflective safety stripes on them, as well as the Navy seal on the left leg. The uniform is made of a cotton-poly blend.

Several master chiefs who have worn the proposed new uniform showed the shorts and T-shirt combination to a very welcome audience.

The master chiefs had traveled to Dallas following three days of meetings in nearby Fort Worth with Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (SW/FMF) Joe Campa as part of the Fleet and Force Master Chief leadership mess.

Campa put some senior enlisted leaders to work testing parts of the proposed physical training uniform while at Naval Air Station/Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.

The uniform was met by applause from the collection of command master chiefs, career counselors and other fleet leaders who got the sneak peek.

The master chiefs who did the briefing warned the audience not to expect the uniform in any sea bag tomorrow, as testing and evaluation — including determining the exact materials it will be made of — still continue. Still, a final proposal to Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mike Mullen seeking approval appears imminent, sources said.
