ST. MARYS, Ga. — A crew from Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base is returning home without its vessel.
Sailors from the submarine Florida’s Blue Crew will return to Kings Bay on Thursday night after a chartered flight of more than 21 hours from Diego Garcia, a military base in the Indian Ocean.
Other submarines ported at Kings Bay usually return for supplies, maintenance or to swap crews after every 70-day deployment. But the crews on the submarines Florida and Georgia typically complete their 90-day deployments in Diego Garcia.
