NORFOLK, Va.— A sailor, who is not being identified by the Navy, shot himself while on duty Tuesday, according to investigation findings from Naval Air Force, Atlantic.
The third class petty officer was assigned to the auxiliary security force aboard the carrier Theodore Roosevelt and his wounds were treated aboard the ship. But he was declared dead that evening.
Security force personnel are “routinely armed while on duty,” according to AirLant information.
The Theodore Roosevelt is currently in port in Norfolk.
