Trial date set for charity in name battle

OMAHA, Neb. — The name dispute between two military charities is headed to trial.

U.S. District Judge Lyle Strom has set a June 15 trial date for Wounded Warriors Inc. and Wounded Warrior Project Inc.

Wounded Warriors is an Omaha-based nonprofit that provides vacations to injured veterans and their families. It’s essentially the same service offered by Florida-based Wounded Warrior Project.

Last year, the Florida-based charity sued Wounded Warriors, saying it has “capitalized on the confusion” created by their similar names.

Strom has already ordered the Omaha charity to change the name of its Web site and include a disclaimer on any new site to note that it is separate from the Florida group.
