Flag officer assignments announced

A flag officer tapped for his third star was nominated by President Bush to be director of the Defense Department’s largest combat support agency, according to a new release Tuesday.
Rear Adm. Alan Thompson, who is serving as commander, Naval Supply Systems Command and is chief of Supply Corps, Mechanicsburg, Pa., was nominated for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as director, Defense Logistics Agency, Fort Belvoir, Va.
Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead also announced three new flag assignments Wednesday:
Rear Adm. John Hines, Jr., who is currently serving as deputy commander of 3rd Fleet, San Diego, was assigned as deputy chief of staff for operations, Allied Air Component Command Headquarters, Izmir, Turkey.
Rear Adm. Michael Lyden, who is currently director, Supply, Ordnance and Logistics Operations Division, N41, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington D.C., is being assigned as commander, Naval Supply Systems Command/chief of Supply Corps, Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Rear Adm. (lower half) Lothrop Little, who currently serves as commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command, New Orleans, is being assigned as deputy commander, Task Force 134, Multi-National Force-Iraq.
