Naval Surface Warfare Center to get $25M lab
Posted : Tuesday Oct 14, 2008 9:15:29 EDT
DAHLGREN, Va. — The Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren is getting another key research and development lab.
Construction began this week on a $25 million building to house the Dahlgren Research Development and Acquisition and Test and Evaluation Consolidation Facility. The center will certify combat systems on Navy aircraft carriers and amphibious ships.
Center spokeswoman Stacia Courtney says the new lab will be linked to other key Navy research labs and will be the Navy’s lead technical center for testing ship combat systems. It also will provide combat and warfare-system engineering.
The nearly 59,000-square-foot building is scheduled to open in June 2010 and will employ about 130 people, with some transferring from Navy test sites in San Diego and Charleston, S.C.
