SAN DIEGO — The last groups from a Navy Seabee battalion are returning home to California this week, marking the end to their latest deployment to Iraq.
The final group with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3 is scheduled to return to Ventura County Naval Base on Thursday afternoon, according to Chief Mass Communications Specialist Shane Montgomery, a spokesman with the 30th Naval Construction Regiment at Port Hueneme.
The battalion’s Seabees deployed to Iraq to support Multinational Forces-West, where they helped provide security for military convoys. Their engineering projects included the assembly of a 1,063-foot-long floating steel bridge across the Euphrates River in Habbiniyah as well as other utility and construction projects in Anbar province, including the renovation of buildings at Camp Ramadi.
