5 reserve flags tapped for 2nd star

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced today that President Barack Obama has nominated five reserve flag officers for their second star:

• Rear Adm. Michael Broadway, commander, Navy Reserve Intelligence Command, Warner Robins, Ga.

• Rear Adm. Sean Crean, deputy assistant secretary of the Navy (acquisition management), Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Washington, D.C.

• Rear Adm. Patrick McGrath, commander, Naval Air Force Reserve/vice commander, Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, San Diego.

• Rear Adm. John Messerschmidt, commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command, New Orleans.

• Rear Adm. Michael Shatynski, reserve deputy commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, San Diego.
