26 rear admirals nominated for second star

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Tuesday that President Barack Obama has nominated 26 flag officers for appointment as two-star rear admirals.

They are:

• Townsend Alexander, currently serving as commander, Navy Region Southeast, Jacksonville, Fla.

• Michael Brown, currently serving as assistant deputy director, Joint Interagency Cyber Task Force, Office of the Director of National Intelligence/deputy assistant secretary for cyber security and communications, National Protection and Programs, Directorate of the DHS, Arlington, Va.

• David Buss, currently serving as deputy chief of staff, strategic plans and assessment, Multi-National Force, Iraq.

• Joseph Campbell, currently serving as fleet maintenance officer, U.S. Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.

• Kendall Card, currently serving as commander, Expeditionary Strike Group 3, San Diego.

• Nevin Carr Jr., currently serving as chief of naval research/director, test and evaluation and technology requirements, N091, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.

• John Christenson, currently serving as commander, Carrier Strike Group 12, Norfolk.

• Michael Connor, currently serving as commander, Submarine Group 7, Yokosuka, Japan.

• Steven Eastburg, currently serving as program executive officer, Air Anti-Submarine Warfare, Assault and Special Mission Programs, Patuxent River, Md.

• Kenneth Floyd, currently serving as commander, Strike Force Training Pacific, San Diego.

• William French, currently serving as commander, Navy Region Marianas/U.S. Pacific Command Representative, Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau/commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Marianas, Guam.

• Philip Greene Jr., currently serving as commander, Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa, Djibouti.

• Bruce Grooms, currently serving as commander, Submarine Group 2, Groton, Conn.

• Janice Hamby, currently serving as director for Command Control Systems, J6, North American Aerospace Defense Command/director, architectures and integration, J6, U.S. Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.

• Edward Hebner, currently serving as commander, Carrier Strike Group 7, San Diego.

• Michelle Howard, currently serving as senior military assistant to the secretary of the Navy, Washington.

• Thomas Meek, currently serving as vice director of security and intelligence/senior intelligence officer, U.S. Southern Command, Miami.

• John Orzalli, currently serving as commander, Regional Maintenance Center, Norfolk.

• William Shannon III, currently serving as program executive officer for Strike Weapons and Unmanned Aviation, Patuxent River.

• Charles Smith, currently serving as program executive officer, Enterprise Information Systems, Arlington.

• Scott Swift, currently serving as commander, Carrier Strike Group 9, Everett, Wash.

• David Thomas Jr., currently serving as commander, Joint Task Force Guantanamo, U.S. Southern Command, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
