The cruiser Port Royal ran aground Thursday evening off Hawaii, about a mile and a half from the entrance to Pearl Harbor, the Navy said. No one was injured

The cause of the grounding and the extent of any damage to the ship weren’t yet clear Friday afternoon. A Navy official said the cruiser ran aground at around 9 p.m. Thursday local time, and was still hung up on the reef or sandbar Friday morning. Local commanders were still surveying the situation to determine what to do.

The Port Royal was aground off the reef runway at Honolulu International Airport, the Navy official said. The runway is on its own island offshore from the rest of the main airport.
