8 flags get new assignments

Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced these eight flag assignments Wednesday:
Rear Adm. (lower half) David Buss, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral, will become commander, Carrier Strike Group 12, Norfolk, Va. Buss is deputy chief of staff, strategic plans and assessment, Multi-National Force-Iraq.
Rear Adm. (lower half) Philip Davidson will become commander, Carrier Strike Group 8, Norfolk, Va. Davidson is deputy director for strategy and policy, J5, Joint Staff, Washington.
Rear Adm. (lower half) Bruce Grooms, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral, will become vice director, Joint Staff. Grooms is commander, Submarine Group 2, Groton, Conn.
Rear Adm. Joseph Kilkenny will become commander, Naval Education and Training Command, Pensacola, Fla. Kilkenny is commander, Navy Recruiting Command, Millington, Tenn.
Rear Adm. (lower half) Steven Romano will become commander, Navy Exchange Service Command, Virginia Beach, Va. Romano is director, Logistics and Security Assistance, J4, U.S. European Command, Stuttgart, Germany.
Rear Adm. (lower half) David Thomas Jr., who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral, will become commander, Carrier Strike Group 2, Norfolk, Va. Thomas is commander, Joint Task Force-Guantanamo, U.S. Southern Command, Guantanamo, Cuba.
Rear Adm. (lower half) Thomas Traaen will become vice director for Logistics, J4, Joint Staff. Traaen is deputy chief of Staff for Logistics, Fleet Supply, and Ordnance, N4, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Rear Adm. (lower half) Robert Wray Jr. will become deputy commander, Military Sealift Command, Washington. Wray is deputy commander, Military Sealift Command Atlantic/Pacific/Europe.
