A junior sailor was arrested in Alabama on Monday and was accused of raping and sodomizing a girl under the age of 12 before he joined the Navy, a law-enforcement official said.
Aviation Ordnanceman Airman Robert Boswell, 19, who is assigned to the carrier Enterprise, was charged with first-degree rape and sodomy, said investigator Greg Jackson with the Covington County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s office received a complaint in January after the girl came forward and told authorities that the alleged rape and sodomy occurred in January 2007, Jackson said.
The alleged offense occurred about six months before Boswell, a native of Red Level, Ala., enlisted in the Navy.
After the arrest, Boswell was released on $60,000 bail, Jackson said.
