Amphib hit by submarine completes repairs
Posted : Wednesday May 13, 2009 6:21:08 EDT
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The Navy says a ship that was struck by a submarine in the narrow choke point off Iran’s coast has been repaired and is back at sea.
The Navy’s 5th Fleet in Bahrain said Wednesday the amphibious transport dock New Orleans returned to duty overnight following repairs in the tiny Persian Gulf island nation.
The New Orleans suffered damage in March when it was hit by the submarine Hartford as the ships were traveling through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Navy says the Hartford will be repaired in the United States. It is traveling on the surface to its home port in Groton, Conn.
