Sailors with up to 14 years need OK to re-enlist
Posted : Friday May 29, 2009 17:48:25 EDT
The Perform to Serve re-enlistment approval program is expanding to sailors E-6 and below with 10 to 14 years of service, the Navy announced Thursday.
These sailors need approval before they can re-enlist, extend an enlistment or negotiate orders.
Sailors with service dates ending on or after Feb. 1 will have to submit an application, regardless of whether they intend to re-enlist. The change is effective June 1.
The program does not apply to chiefs or sailors E-6 and below who:
Have an end-of-service or rotation date prior to Feb. 1, 2010.
Are under permanent-change-of-station orders.
Hold an approved rating conversion package.
Have an approved selective re-enlistment bonus or enlisted supervisor retention pay approval message.
Are selected for advancement to chief petty officer.
The mechanics of the program will be exactly the same as those for sailors with up to 10 years in uniform. Sailors submit an application requesting to re-enlist through their career counselor. If they desire to re-enlist, they can request to re-enlist in rating, as well as request to convert to an undermanned rating. If they don’t want to re-enlist, they are required to state that, too.
Applications for those whose end-of-service dates fall in February 2010 are due to Navy Personnel Command by June 29 and will be required the last Friday of the month each month after that.
This move puts the final piece into the re-enlistment approval puzzle Vice Adm. Mark Ferguson announced in January. PTS for sailors with up to six years of service has been in place since February 2003, and Ferguson started the program for sailors with six to 10 years Feb. 1.
