An explosive ordnance disposal technician was killed Thursday in Fallujah, Iraq, while operating with a SEAL unit, according to a news release from Naval Special Warfare Group 2.
EOD2 Tyler J. Trahan, 22, of East Freetown, Mass., was killed along with two Marines in what has been described only as combat operations.
No further information about the incident was provided.
The Marines have not been identified pending next-of-kin notification, according to Multinational Corps-Iraq.
Trahan was assigned to EOD Mobile Unit 12, in Norfolk, Va. He enlisted in May 2006.
Trahan had earned the Bronze Star with “V” device, Combat Action Ribbon, Purple Heart and other decorations.
Cmdr. Joseph Polanin, commander of EODMU 12, said Trahan was “an exemplary leader and an exceptional EOD technician” as well as “a great warrior, teammate and friend.”
His remains were expected to arrive Friday night at Dover Air Force Base, Del.
The SEAL unit to which he was attached at the time was only identified as being based on the East Coast.
