Some sailors go to sea and get in really good shape. A regular daily schedule allows time for working out without the distractions of life at home. There’s no temptation or even the possibility of downing a few gut-producing beers after work. And the endless ladders on ships don’t hurt.

Other sailors go to sea and gain weight, for all the reasons people get fat — sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise and poor diet.

What about you? Do you gain or lose weight on deployment? What have you noticed about other sailors when they come home from deployment?
