Tell us what you think about sloppy sailors

Do you ever look around the waterfront or on base and see sailors whose appearance embarrasses you? Shirts untucked? Sloppy salutes? Hair out of reg? Did you try to correct them? Why or why not? And did it work?

If you’ve noticed a lack of military bearing in the fleet, in the wing, or elsewhere in the Navy, you aren’t alone. A year ago, then-Force Master Chief (SW/AW) Mike Schanche of Naval Surface Forces sent out a message expressing his dismay at what he witnessed on a visit to the waterfront.

A year later, has anything improved? If not, what’s the excuse? High op tempo? Poor leadership examples? Contempt for standards?
