CO of Afloat Training Group Atlantic fired
Posted : Friday Aug 28, 2009 15:24:35 EDT
The commander of Afloat Training Group Atlantic was relieved Thursday because of a loss of confidence in his ability to command, according a statement released Friday.
Rear Adm. Kevin Quinn, the commander of Naval Surface Forces Atlantic, relieved Capt. Michael D. Hawley, who was reassigned to SurfLant headquarters.
The release stated that Hawley’s firing was based not on his actions during his current command tour, but on his actions while commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship Wasp.
No further investigations or disciplinary action will occur, according to Paul Taylor, a SurfLant spokesman.
Hawley left the Wasp on April 11 and assumed command of the ATG on May 16.
Capt. Brian Donegan was scheduled to assume command of ATG Atlantic on Monday.
