4 flag officers tapped for new assignments

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Friday that the president has nominated Rear Adm. John Blake for appointment to the grade of vice admiral and assignment as deputy chief of naval operations for integration of capabilities and resources, N8, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

Blake is now director, Office of Budget, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Financial Management and Comptroller, and director, Fiscal Management Division, N82, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

Also on Friday, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead announced these flag assignments:

• Rear Adm. (lower half) Michael Connor, who has been selected for a second star, will be assigned as director, Submarine Warfare Division, N87, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C. Connor is now commander, Submarine Group 7, Yokosuka, Japan.

• Rear Adm. Cecil Haney will be assigned as director, Naval Warfare Integration Group, N00X, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C. Haney is now director, Submarine Warfare Division, N87, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

• Rear Adm. (lower half) Jonathan White will be assigned as commander, Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command, Stennis Space Center, Miss. White is now chief of staff for the command.
