Gunston Hall diverted from APS mission

The dock landing ship Gunston Hall has become the ninth ship at or en route to Haiti to provide humanitarian assistance. The ship, with a crew of more than 400 officers and sailors, is scheduled to leave Friday from Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Va.
Gunston Hall was already scheduled to deploy Friday in support of the Africa Partnership Station. It will continue on to that deployment once the humanitarian mission is complete.
Gunston Hall is commanded by Cmdr. Fred Wilhelm.
Earlier Thursday, the Navy had announced the destroyer Higgins would take part in relief efforts.
Gunston Hall and Higgins join seven other Navy ships, including the carrier Carl Vinson, in the Haiti humanitarian mission.
