NORFOLK, Va. — The cruiser Normandy has returned to Norfolk Naval Station after helping with earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
Lt. Cmdr. Michael Hansen says the guided-missile cruiser’s crew of about 300 sailors distributed about 125,000 meals and evacuated more than 300 injured people.
Hansen says villagers told the ship’s crew that they were only the help the villagers had seen.
The Normandy left Jan. 13, one day after the earthquake ravaged Haiti, and returned home Tuesday.
