New site gathers online help for vets, troops

To help wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans and their families navigate the multitude of Web sites offering help, several federal agencies have launched the free National Resource Directory, which organizes more than 10,000 Web sites into user-friendly bites.
Each area of information is broken down in an easy-to-navigate format: Benefits and Compensation, Education and Training, Employment, Family and Caregiver Support, Health, Homeless Assistance, Transportation and Travel, and Other Services and Resources.
Those links take visitors to a page that’s broken down further for quick navigation.
The Veterans Affairs Department “is committed to tapping into the full powers of the Internet to provide accurate, timely, easy-to-find and easy-to-understand information that improves the lives of veterans, service members, their families and all who care for them,” VA Secretary Eric Shinseki said in a press statement.
Veterans can also bookmark links and forward them to others who might benefit from them through Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites.
The site was created by VA, the Defense Department and the Department of Labor.
