The commanding officer of the destroyer Truxtun, Cmdr. Timothy Weber, was fired Wednesday due to “loss of confidence,” according to a Navy press release.

Capt. Richard Rogers, commander of Destroyer Squadron 22, relieved Weber after allegations surfaced that the skipper was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a female officer on the Norfolk, Va.-based ship, the release from Naval Surface Force Atlantic said.

Capt. Jeffrey Wolstenholme, DesRon 22’s deputy commander, will command Truxtun until a permanent replacement is named.

Weber, who took command of the ship in July 2007, was temporarily reassigned to administrative duties at SurfLant.
