Destroyers, frigate leave Pearl Harbor

Staff report
Posted : Saturday Feb 27, 2010 18:33:53 EST

The Navy moved more than a half-dozen vessels Saturday as Hawaii was under a tsunami warning following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile.

The destroyers Chafee, Chung Hoon and O’Kane, the frigate Crommelin, the oiler Yukon and a SEAL support vessel were sortied from Pearl Harbor, Navy officials said. The guided missile cruiser Port Royal, which is undergoing maintenance at Pearl Harbor, was moved to deeper water in the harbor, the Navy said.

In addition, the cruiser Lake Champlain joined other 3rd Fleet vessels underway in the Southern California operating area, the Navy said.

The Navy said families should call the Fleet and Family Support Center (808-474-1999) or visit the Facebook page of the Commander, Navy Region Hawaii, for up-to-date information.
