Gates announces flag nominations

The Navy has nominated a new chief of chaplains, and eight reserve flag officers have been tapped for a second star.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Thursday that President Obama has nominated Rear Adm. (lower half) Mark Tidd for appointment as chief of chaplains and promotion to rear admiral (upper half).

Tidd is chaplain of the Marine Corps/deputy chief of chaplains/deputy director of religious ministries, N097B, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Arlington, Va.

In addition, the following Navy Reserve one-stars have been nominated for rear admiral:

• Garry Bonelli, deputy commander, Naval Special Warfare Command, San Diego.

• Donald Gintzig, deputy commander, Navy Medicine West/deputy commander, force integration, San Diego.

• Lothrop Little, commander, Navy Reserve Forces Command, Norfolk, Va.

• Scott Sanders, deputy commander, 2nd Fleet, Norfolk.

• Steven Talson, deputy judge advocate general for Reserve affairs and operations/deputy commander, Naval Legal Service Command, Washington, D.C.

• Scott Weikert, deputy commander, 1st Naval Construction Division, Norfolk.

• Patricia Wolfe, commander, Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group, Williamsburg, Va.

• Robert Wray, deputy commander, Military Sealift Command, Washington.
