Lt. j.g. Thomas Kilcline III, whose father is a vice admiral and the commander of Naval Air Forces, received his wings Friday at a ceremony in Meridian, Miss.
The younger Kilcline is a fourth-generation naval aviator and plans to fly F/A-18 Hornets and Super Hornets with Strike Fighter Squadron 106, the fleet replacement squadron at Naval Air Station Oceana, Va., Navy officials said. He graduated from the Naval Academy in May 2008.
Vice Adm. Thomas Kilcline Jr. was a guest speaker at the June 18 ceremony, awarding wings to 20 new aviators from Training Squadron 7.
The younger Kilcline was pinned with a pair of wings once worn by his great-grandfather, who died during World War II.
