NORFOLK, Va. — Naval Station Norfolk will make history when Rear Adm. Nora Tyson assumes command of Carrier Strike Group 2 — the first woman to be assigned to that command.

Tyson will take command on Thursday during a ceremony on the deck of the George H.W. Bush, the Navy's newest aircraft carrier. She succeeds Capt. Jeffrey Hesterman, acting strike group commander.

The Navy has 10 U.S.-based carrier groups.

Adm. Gary Roughead, chief of naval operations, will be among those in attendance at the change-of-command ceremony.
