NORFOLK, Va. — A Hampton Roads group aiming to keep the Joint Forces Command operating has hired a retired Navy rear admiral as its new executive director.

The Virginian-Pilot reported Friday that Craig Quigley will take the helm of the Hampton Roads Military & Federal Facilities Alliance. He succeeds a retired Navy captain, Frank Roberts, on Sept. 23 as executive director of the alliance.

The alliance is affiliated with the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission. In recent weeks it has provided support for the campaign to blunt a Defense Department plan to close the Joint Forces Command.

Quigley has served as the alliance's primary spokesman.
