Pelosi touts progress on aid for veterans

MILWAUKEE — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Congress has made historic progress in expanding education, health care and employment benefits for veterans and military families.
Pelosi told the American Legion's national convention in Milwaukee those accomplishments include a record increase in funding for veterans health care and new college benefits for those who have served after 2001.
She told the crowd of veterans in a downtown ballroom that “together, we made more progress over the last four years for our veterans and military families than has been made since the passage of the original GI Bill in 1944.”
But the California Democrat also says that more steps need to be taken to employ veterans, reduce homelessness among them and to treat those returning with injuries.
