Congrats to the new E-6s, E-5s, E-4s!

The Navy on Tuesday released the names of the 15,664 sailors who will advance to the next paygrade from the fall petty officer advancement cycle.

The active-duty list includes 2,983 new E-6s, 5,697 sailors moving to E-5 and 6,984 E-4s joining the petty officer ranks.

Quotas

This cycle, there is an overall 16.69 percent chance to advance, up slightly from 16.42 percent in May, but still lower than the 19.86 percent in fall 2009.

Although quotas increased by 1,081 compared with the spring total, the numbers of test passers rose by 4,656, keeping competition tight.

With retention at historic highs, officials say advancement chances will not get much better until the economy improves and more sailors begin to leave the ranks — though they’re happy they were able to hold the line this cycle against any further reductions in quotas or opportunity.
