CMC fired after alleged sub-par performance

A command master chief at a recruiting district was fired Wednesday, bringing the tally of relieved senior enlisted to four this year.

Command Master Chief Meondra Kendley was relieved of her position as top sailor for Naval Recruiting District San Antonio by Cmdr. Jonathan Lovejoy, the commanding officer.

A statement from Navy Recruiting Command said Kendley was fired because of a loss of confidence, and that to protect her privacy, no further details would be available and it is too soon to say where she will head next.

According to a source familiar with the firing, Kendley was fired because she didn’t perform the job as well as expected. There was no investigation, nor was there any criminal issue at play.

Kendley could not be reached for comment.

Kendley reported to the recruiting district in 2009 after serving as command master chief at Special Projects Patrol Squadron 2 since January 2006. She has also worked in Italy, Canada and Germany, as well as several stateside duty stations. Originally from East St. Louis, Ill., Kendley enlisted in 1985.

Kendley was the fourth senior enlisted leader to be relieved of duty this year. She follows command Master Chief Ron Burnett, who was relieved Feb. 9 by Cmdr. Scott Curtis for a loss of confidence related to an investigation into inappropriate touching of a female shipmate, a Navy spokesman said.

On Jan. 22, Command Master Chief (SW/AW) Kelvin Coleman was fired after he was arrested in connection with a drunken driving incident. He was the senior enlisted of the Stethem, a Japan-based destroyer.

And on Jan. 5, Senior Chief Yeoman (SS) Savan Patel was fired after he was arrested and charged with drunk driving in Hawaii. Patel was chief of the Louisville, a Los Angeles Class submarine.
