Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Friday announced that President Obama has nominated two reserve captains to receive their first star.

• Capt. Althea H. Coetzee, commanding officer, Navy Reserve Operations Logistics Readiness Detachment 106, Washington, D.C.

• Capt. Valerie K. Huegel, director, CJ-4, Logistics Directorate, Combined Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa, Camp Lemonier, Djibouti.
