Executive officer fired at Singapore command

SAN DIEGO — An executive officer of a regional command in Singapore was fired Friday for creating a hostile work environment and failing to follow orders, the Navy said.
Cmdr. Andrew Crowe, executive officer of Navy Region Center Singapore since December 2008, was relieved by Capt. Matthew Garside, acting commander of Logistics Group Western Pacific, during a mast proceeding in Singapore, said Lt. Cmdr. Michael Morley, a command spokesman.
The decision to remove Crowe came after “an investigation based on an allegation of hostile work environment” had been made against Crowe, who was charged with conduct unbecoming an officer, Morley said. Crowe also had failed to follow orders that had been passed to him on four occasions, Morley said.
Crowe was re-assigned temporarily to duties at the logistics command.
“We have not made a determination with regard to temporary assignment or his next assignment,” Morley said.
Crowe graduated from the Naval Academy and was commissioned in 1991. He is a surface warfare officer, according to his official biography.
He had previously served as chief of staff of Amphibious Squadron 7 and Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group in San Diego and as executive officer of Beachmaster Unit 1 in Coronado, Calif.
The billet of executive officer held by Crowe is scheduled to be eliminated in December as part of a planned restructuring within the logistics command, Morley said.
