HAGATNA, Guam — Sailors from the Navy’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Mobile Unit 5 rescued two local fishermen off the rocks in Apra Harbor on Friday, according to a Navy statement.

The explosive ordinance unit’s divers and technicians spotted the distressed men stranded at the harbor’s entrance while the unit was performing routine morning exercises, said the statement. The fishing vessel the men were in capsized off the waters of the harbor. The rescuers assisted them to Family Beach near Cabras Island in Piti.

The men did not need medical attention but appeared dehydrated and were given water, the Navy said.

The explosive ordinance unit, out of Naval Base Guam, is responsible for locating, identifying, and rendering safe all explosive hazards in the Western Pacific area of operations, the Navy said.
