Skydiver dies in Riverside County; victim was in military

PERRIS, Calif. — A skydiver who was a member of the military has died in Southern California but there are no immediate details of the circumstances.

The Riverside County Fire Department says the skydiver was reported down shortly after 9 a.m. Wednesday near State Route 74 in an unincorporated area near Perris.

The death was confirmed a short time later.

Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann says no more details are being released because the skydiver was in the military. She referred inquiries to a Naval Special Warfare office.

Messages were left for naval officials seeking additional information.

Perris is a major Southern California skydiving center.
