Vice President Joe Biden is set on tap to deliver the commencement address at the U.S. Naval Academy graduation ceremony in May, academy leaders announced Tuesday.

Biden will take the stage May 22 for the ceremony that will transition 1,000 midshipmen from students to Navy ensigns and Marine Corps second lieutenants in the Navy and Marine Corps, a release said.

He follows the 2014 graduation speaker,k former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, and 2013 speaker President Obama, who encouraged the graduating mids to help the military stamp out the scourge of sexual assault.

Both of Biden's sons have served in the armed forces. Beau Biden is a former Delaware Army National Guard judge advocate general officer. Hunter Biden is a former Navy Reserve public affairs officer who though he was discharged in February 2014 after testing positive for cocaine use a month into his service.
