A male petty officer wounded in Thursday's shooting rampage in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has died.

The critically wounded sailor had been undergoing treatment at a local hospital after being shot at the Navy Operational Support Center where four Marines were killed. The Navy statement did not give the sailor's name, but was identified by family as Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith, a reservist serving on active duty in Chattanooga, according to the Associated Press. The sailor has not been identified.

"A male Navy Petty Officer succumbed to wounds received in the July 16 shooting at the Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) in Chattanooga, Tennessee July 18 at 2:17 a.m.," the Navy said in a statement Saturday.

A response team from the Navy Reserve and Navy Region Southwest of chaplains, family support personnel and casualty assistance crisis officers arrived on Thursday to provide help to those affected by the senseless attack and their families.

"The Navy/Marine Corps team and, indeed, all of the military are like family," said Vice Adm. Robin Braun, the chief of the Navy Reserve, in a statement Friday. "And, as family does, we stand together with our primary focus being to assist those who have been affected by this senseless tragedy."
