The Navy has released the names of the roughly 4,200 first classes who have been selected to pin on the anchors of a chief petty officer.

The fiscal 2016 selection board, which convened June 22 in Millington, Tennessee, reviewed the records of 17,639 first-class petty officers and filled 4,062 4,170 quotas offered up by the chief of naval personnel's manpower planners, a selection rate of about 24 percent.

The announcement launches the annual chief's season, as the selectees get an arduous introduction into the responsibilities and traditions of the chief's mess.
