The commanding officer of the attack submarine Dallas was fired Tuesday for poor performance.

Cmdr. Edward Byers was relieved for leadership shortfalls, according to Submarine Force Atlantic Fleet spokesman Cmdr. Tommy Crosby. Byers took command of the Dallas in November 2014. There were no allegations of misconduct involved in the relief, Crosby said.

"The commanding officer of the Groton-based Los Angeles-class attack submarine USS Dallas (SSN 700) was relieved of his duties Feb. 2 due to loss of confidence in his ability to command," according to a Navy release.

Capt. Jack Houdeshell, who commanded Dallas previously, has temporarily reassumed command of the Dallas.

Byers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
