USS Missouri returning to homeport in Groton

The Virginia-class attack submarine Pre-Commissioning Unit Missouri conducts sea trials, July 2, in the Atlantic Ocean. Missouri is scheduled to be commissioned, July 31, at Naval Submarine Base New London.

GROTON, Conn. — A Navy attack submarine is returning to its homeport in Groton after a deployment to the waters around Europe.

USS Missouri is expected back at the Naval Submarine Base on Friday afternoon.

The nuclear-powered submarine traveled roughly 37,000 miles during a deployment that included port visits in Scotland, Spain and France.

The Missouri was commissioned in 2010 as the seventh in the Virginia class of attack submarines.
