Russian aircraft harassed a destroyer in the Black Sea participating in exercises with NATO forces.

In three separate incidents on Feb. 10, Russian fighter jets and a maritime patrol aircraft flew close to the Porter, which the ship deemed unsafe and unprofessional, according to a Reuters report.

The aircraft did not respond to queries from the ship, the report said.

The ship departed the Black Sea Friday after wrapping up training. The Porter is one of four destroyers forward deployed to Rota, Spain, to provide ballistic missile defense for Europe.

The incident is the latest in a string of provocative overflights of U.S. ships in the region. In April, the U.S. lodged a formal complaint about Russian jets flying within 30 feet of the destroyer Donald Cook.
