Navy officials have published the lead-up timelines for the active and reserve chief petty officer selection boards, providing guidance for first class petty officers on what must do to ensure their best chance at pinning on anchors this summer.

In January, all eligible active-duty first class petty officers sat for their chief exams. Selected reservists take their tests this month. While it may be a little too late to cram in any more studying, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing left to do.

Typically, the Navy publishes the board-eligible list by the end of March, which normally contains the top 60 percent of candidates ranked by a combination of test scores and advancement recommendations.

It may be short notice, but there is still time to ensure your latest and greatest evaluations are in your record. And if you’re close to hitting high-year tenure, it’s time to ask for a waiver.

Check your Official Military Personnel File to make sure evaluations and awards are up to date, and be sure monitor your Electronic Service Record data to validate the information is correct.

The board for selected reservists is slated to begin May 21, meaning if you’re in this group, you have until April 30 to notify the board of any missing documentation.

The active-duty board will convene June 24. For consideration, all correspondence must be sent in by June 4.

Once the active-board adjourns — no later than July 20 — it’s a waiting game until around mid-August, when the results are released.
