A sailor who received an other than honorable discharge from the Navy in September was convicted this week of distributing a video featuring puppies being drowned.

Petty Officer Third Class Daniel James O’Sullivan, 26, was investigated in 2016 after Naval Criminal Investigative Service agents were informed he was in possession of videos showing the torture and killing of animals, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.

O’Sullivan, who was stationed at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi at the time he was confronted by authorities, admitted to sending a video to an individual in Montana that showed puppies being drowned in a river, the release said. The receipt of the video was also confirmed by authorities.

Further inspection of O’Sullivan’s digital devices revealed additional heinous video footage.

“In one video, a dog’s mouth is closed with duct tape as it is set on fire. In another, a dog is thrown off a high-rise building,” the release said. “Other videos depict mice and baby chicks being ground-up in a blender.”

The last case prosecuted for videos of animal torture or murder in the Southern District of Texas resulted in a 57-month federal prison sentence, the release said.

O’Sullivan’s sentencing is set for Aug. 2. He faces up to seven years in prison and a maximum $250,000 fine. He’s been allowed out on bond until the hearing.
