MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Police in Virginia have confirmed that a body found in a wooded area is that of a naval reservist from Martinsville whose disappearance prompted an extensive search.

Police told the Martinsville Bulletin on Wednesday that the body has been positively identified as that of Larry D. Hinchee.

Tracie Cooper is administrator of the state medical examiner’s district office in Roanoke. She says it could take four to eight weeks before her office can determine a cause of death.

Hinchee disappeared after leaving his job at Eastman Chemical early in the morning of March 24.

Federal agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service aided the city’s police department with its search.
