A petty officer faces a court-martial trial for allegedly stealing money from the admiral who commanded a carrier strike group, according to Navy charge sheets.

Yeoman 2nd Class Cameron D. Kay was charged in March.

Prosecutors allege he stole $500 from the account of his boss, Rear Adm. John Fuller, who helmed California’s Carrier Strike Group 1, according to charge sheets.

Kay allegedly misused Fuller’s government travel card in April 2018 and May 2018, according to Navy spokesman Kevin Dixon and the charge sheets.

Fuller handed over the reins of his Naval Air Station North Island-based command in June.

Military prosecutors also charged the sailor with unauthorized absence from the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson from Dec. 17 to Feb. 5, charge sheets state.

Kay has been held in pretrial confinement since Feb. 5, the filings indicate.

His military attorney declined to comment through a public affairs official.

The carrier arrived at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility on Feb. 28 so that workers could fix major ship components and prep the flattop to embark an F-35C Lighting II Joint Strike Fighter squadron, officials said.
