Air Force Academy wrestlers will storm the flight deck of the USS Midway Museum in San Diego on Tuesday, looking to cause some crash landings.

The Falcons will face Fresno State in a Big 12 Conference dual meet aboard the decommissioned aircraft carrier, the first such match aboard Midway, organizers say.

“It will be an amazing event for the military and wrestling fans alike,” Air Force head coach Sam Barber said in a news release announcing the meet. “It’s also a great opportunity for our cadet-athletes to do something special in a military environment.”

The “Battle on the Midway” begins at 6 p.m. local time Tuesday. It will include six undercard matches featuring freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers from Team USA. Tickets can be purchased online.

It will be Air Force’s first conference meet of the season. The Falcons are 0-1 after a Nov. 12 loss at Minnesota.

Midway hosted a college basketball game between Syracuse and San Diego State in November 2012, a year after then-President Obama attended the Carrier Classic matchup between North Carolina and Michigan State held aboard the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson. Weather led to a rescheduling of the 2012 game, and wind gusts made outside shooting all but impossible.

The decommissioned aircraft carrier Intrepid, now a museum in New York City, hosted an amateur wrestling meet in 2010 featuring 2012 Olympic hopefuls. It also hosted a World Wrestling Federation event in 1993.
