CHICAGO – Authorities say a man is in custody after he allegedly sped through the main gate of a Chicago-area naval station and slammed into two security cars during a police chase.
Officials with the Naval Station Great Lakes north of Chicago say the suspect was injured during the crash about 11 p.m. Thursday. He was taken to a hospital, though his medical status was not immediately clear Friday.
The station's spokesman, John Sheppard, says the suspect was evading Lake Bluff police when he sped through the Navy station's main gate.
Sheppard says Navy security workers fired four shots at the suspect's car in an unsuccessful attempt to disable the vehicle. The motorist then collided with two security vehicles being used as a blockage.
There's no word on any charges.
