The commanding officer of Coastal Riverine Squadron 3 was fired Tuesday.
Rear Adm. Frank Morneau, the head of Navy Expeditionary Combat Command, fired Cmdr. Joseph Fauth after an investigation into "several personnel issues and actions" that raised questions about the "safety and welfare" of sailors at the command, according to a Navy release.
Cmdr. Michael Dillender, chief staff officer at Coastal Riverine Group 2, took the reins of the unit as the interim CO.
Reached by email, Fauth declined to comment on the relief.
Fauth is a 1994 graduate of University of Texas at Austin. He served his first tour on the amphibious transport dock Duluth, and his second on the carrier Kitty Hawk. Fauth also served as chief engineer on the frigate John L. Hall and then executive officer of the destroyer Paul Hamilton.
His shore assignments include a tour in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and a tour in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, working on the afloat ballistic missile defense program.
He holds a master's degree in information technology from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
