NEW ORLEANS — A 32-year-old Coast Guard petty officer faces two years of confinement and a dishonorable discharge after being convicted at a Court-Martial in New Orleans of assault and abusive sexual contact.

The Coast Guard said Thursday that Petty Officer 2nd Class Leonel Hinojosa (HIH'-nah-HO-sah) was convicted under the Uniform Code of Military Justice of dereliction of duty, making a false official statement, abusive sexual contact and assault.

The Coast Guard said Hinojosa exploited his position as a health care provider to perform fraudulent medical examinations on subordinate female Coast Guardsmen.

Hinojosa had been a health services technician assigned to Coast Guard Sector Corpus Christi.
