If you've got pressing business with your electronic service jacket, you better get it done before ThursdayWednesdayNov. 4 or you'll be in for for a surprise — and a wait.
That's because Navy officials have given notice Officials are shutting down the the Navy Standard Integrated Personnel System for six days from , known as NSIPS, and everything in them, will be offline from Nov. 5-10 for upgrades. through 10, while "technical upgrades" are made to the system.
For enlisted sailors, NSIPS is where your electronic records are storedkept. Officer access to their online records is not impacted as their summary, performance summary and Officer Data Card access are via BUPERS Online, which will remain in operation. all comes through a separate online system, BuPers Online which will remain in operation.
But both officers and enlisted could feel an impact from the shutdown as NSIPS is home to the Navy's E-eLeave application process, where sailors put in annual leave requests. that's now how everyone in the service requests annual leave.
"All sailors are encouraged to make sure eLeave requests for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday period are routed early, to ensure they are processed before the system goes down," Navy Personnel Command said in a the release Monday said.
The outage starts Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. Central Standard Time and scheduled to be online again by 8 a.m. Central Time on Nov. 11, the release said.
Those on board ships need to know that the central personnel and pay processing site will be shut down during the outage, so no updates through NSIPS that to other Navy and Defense pay and personnel databases will be processed during that time.
"Transactions processed on the ship's NSIPS servers will be queued for processing once the central system is back online and no transactions will be lost," the release said.
Personnel officials have harped on sailors retaining paper copies of any transactions in an online system, should they have problems later. repeatedly said that sailors having transactions entered in any online system should always retain a hard copy of the transaction, so if there are problems later, they have the supporting documents. This will be especially true during the dark time while transactions are being done, but not entered, in the database.
As a result, Sailors should not only make sure they retain a copy, but once the system comes back online they should log online when the system is available and ensure their data has been received. at their first convenience to check to ensure that their data arrived.
In addition, NPC advises sailors that summary personnel data is available via BUPERS Online. are reminded that summary personnel data is also available through the BuPers Online application, which officials confirm is not impacted by the NSIPS shutdown.
The upgrade includes a new dropdown menu and expanded computer based training, the release said. will bring users new menu that will move from the left side of the page to the top — allowing for drop-down menus to be added, the release said.
In addition, the upgraded system will include "expanded training capabilities allowing for self-paced, computer-based training with multiple playback modes," the release said.
